Latest Severe Weather Outlook

The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center was released at 8:00 am. It now pushes the Slight Risk area farther south. Lubbock is now not included in this risk. A cold front is already pushing through the northern counties and is expected to move into the southern counties this afternoon. It will stall there. A dry line will also be in the Permian Basin, interacting with the cold front. Where this interaction occurs is where the best severe threat is located. Right now it is looking to stay well south of Lubbock.

The yellow areas, where severe storms will occur from 5:00-10:00 pm, include eastern Gaines County (NOT Seminole), Dawson, Borden, Scurry, Garza (Includes Post) and Kent Counties. Hail up to 2" is possible with any severe storm that forms this afternoon/evening and wind gusts to 60 mph. A tornado threat does exist, but is low. Any tornado, if it forms, will be isolated.

The next outlook will come out at noon. If anything changes, I will certainly post the update.
