Lubbock had a record setting Halloween morning. We dropped down to 16°, which is a new record low temperature for October 31 and lowest temperature ever recorded in Lubbock! In the picture above you can see that we weren't even close to the previous record of 20° set in 1991. Thankfully things worked out for trick-or-treating on Thursday evening. Changes will begin today as warmer air will make a return to west Texas. High temperatures in the area today will remain below average, but they're going to be much higher than what we saw to round out October. Highs over the next seven days will be all over the place, as we jump back on the roller coaster. This is pretty typical for early November and typical for 2019 as well.
High pressure is in control of the weather across Texas on this Friday. With that said, we're watching a cold front coming down from Colorado. That cold front will affect our weather this afternoon and evening. The high temperature on Halloween was 54° in Lubbock. We should be at 70°! The air will warm up today, but we'll be between six-to-nine degrees below average area-wide. The wind is going to be at 10-15 mph from the south and southwest before the front moves in. Noted in the photo above, the cold front will be through the area by 7:30 tonight. Before it passes, Lubbock will get to 62°. The wind will shift to the north behind the front and will gust to 30 mph at times. High school football games tonight will be frigid, with temperatures in the mid and upper 40s by kickoff and wind still at 15-20 mph. So bundle up as you go to the games tonight! It will be cold by Saturday morning, with clear skies and light wind. The low i Lubbock will dip down to 28°.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there is no Texas Tech football this week, so we will be doing other things. If you want to get outside on Saturday, take a light jacket with you. There will be sunny skies and light wind tomorrow, which will help to make things feel a bit warmer than it actually is. Saturday will see a high temperature reach 54°. It won't be as cold on Sunday morning, but you'll still need to bundle up as you head out to church. The temperature will drop down to 36°. Sunday afternoon is going to be pretty nice. Wind will increase to 10-15 mph, but it will remain sunny and dry. The high temperature will be near average in Lubbock, as we make it to the high of 68°.
Remember when you go to bed Saturday night, or at 2:00 am Sunday morning, turn those clocks back one hour. We will get an extra hour of sleep Saturday night!
