Another Round of Snow

Expect another quick-hitting low pressure system to drop snow across the region on Tuesday, into Wednesday morning. Much like Sunday's system, we won't see much in the way of accumulation from this one. The two more reliable models posted above, the Euro and GFS, are actually giving us the least amount of snow. The GFS's bias is to overdue precipitation. So that is something to think about. The GFS usually is all over the snow, like it was for this past Sunday. However, it is coming into more of an agreement with the Euro about the lack of snow for west Texas. The NAM is the only model gung ho about snow Tuesday-Wednesday. I am not going to be heavily reliant on the NAM. It does not perform well for our area, but it is worth showing.

As you would expect with the lack of the models showing snow, the forecast snow accumulation for Tuesday and Wednesday are not looking impressive at all. Even the NAM is lacking in accumulating snow. The Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex, however, is going to be hit with snow totals ranging from 2-4", especially just east of Dallas. They had 4-6" in some locations on Sunday and Monday morning. So road conditions and both airports will be in awful shape. Expect many flights to be canceled again tomorrow and Wednesday. I am thinking that Lubbock will be lucky to see an inch of snow from this event. Areas northeast of Lubbock may see 2-3" at the most by Wednesday morning.

The cold air is still going to be a problem on Tuesday for all of Texas. Lubbock is going to drop down to 6° Tuesday morning, which will break the record low temperature of 13° most recently reached in 1979. We'll see cloudy skies on Tuesday, so that will limit how high temperatures will go. I am forecasting a high of 28°. We'll drop down to 10° on Wednesday morning and 8° Thursday morning. So the record cold spell will only continue. Please remember to limit time outside, drip your faucets and get a carbon monoxide detector if you don't have one, especially if you have a gas fireplace, or gas oven/stove. This weekend will be much warmer, with sunshine, wind and highs near 60°!
